Ann Tanksley, born in Pittsburgh and now a resident of New York, is a figurative painter and printmaker who has developed a large following. A graduate of the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, PA, she also studied at the Art Student League, Parsons School of Design, the New School for Social Research and the Printmaking Workshop where she learned monotype. One of her most celebrated works is a large group of 60 monoprints inspired by the writings of Zora Neal Hurston, entitled "Images of Zora," which she showed in 1991. She has received several corporate commissions from the Coors Brewing Company, Pepsi Cola Company, Absolut Vodka, and Colgate-Palmolive. Her work can be found in the collections of the Johnson Publishing Company, The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Hewitt Collection.
