ANONYMOUS CITIZEN'S SAVINGS BANK. 1939. 44x21 inches. The Thos. D. Murphy Co., Red Oak, Iowa.
ANONYMOUS CITIZEN'S SAVINGS BANK. 1939.
44 1/2x21 1/4 inches. The Thos. D. Murphy Co., Red Oak, Iowa.
Condition A-: creases in margins and image; calendar attached. Framed.
A dramatic scene of the sun rising over the tip of lower Manhattan. The image, entitled "The Dawn of a New Age," depicts a prototype of the Douglas DC 4. In 1939 Douglas took the plane on a cross country tour, trying to raise interest in the aircraft from both airlines and the public. Although the craft was considered cutting edge at the time, it was also deemed to be too large and never went into mass production. A smaller version was introduced during the war, and went into commercial service in the late forties.
All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues and are posted below.
