ANONYMOUS UNITED AIRLINES / MAINLINER VACATIONS. Circa 1940.
41 1/8x28 1/8 inches.
Condition B+: minor repaired tears and creases in margins.
In the style of John Held Jr., an amusing cartoon image depicting the "flying forties," a nickname for a decade that never stuck the way "roaring twenties" has. Fishermen, golfers, lovers, horseback riders, swimmers and hunters all have reason to take to the skies. Pictured is the Douglas DC-3 "Mainliner" (first put into service in 1937), which could seat 21 passengers and had a cruising speed of 185-205 miles per hour.
