Album containing 77 photographs of the construction of the S. S. Discovery and its expedition to the Antarctic. Albumen (12), silver (44), and printing-out paper (21) prints, 9 1/ 2x11 1/ 2 to 2 1/ 2x1 3/ 4 inches (24.1x29.2 to 6.4x4.4 cm.) and the reverse, 11 with the photographer's credit and titles in the negative, many with hand written captions and dates, in ink, on the mount.   • Notes: Under the command of Capt. Robert F. Scott the S. S. Discovery set out on the British National Antarctic Expedition in 1901. Meant to be the first extensive exploration of the land of Antarctica, the expedition lasted three years and the Discovery traveled 300 miles farther than anyone before them.
