  • Condition: Antonio Beato's "Karnak, Interieur de la salle, Egypt" (circa 1875) is in overall very good condition. The print is rich and contrasty, and evidences total variety, contrast, and detail throughout. With deep browns and creamy highlights, the prints appears to be have warmed slightly, but this is not distracting, given the overall retention of detail and dimensionality.

With close inspection under raking light it is possible to see just some of the superficial and faint surface imperfections associated with albumen prints of this age. These are minor, and not immediately apparent or distracting. There is one tiny pinpoint sized impression near the lower edge. And, most noticeably, there is a small circular spot at the top center edge and a slightly larger circular spot of period retouching at the lower right corner, both of which have darkened. This is visible in our catalogue illustration.

The mount is faintly soiled on both recto and verso, as is typical. There is a small chip at the lower edge. With Beato's signature in the negative and the title in pencil in an unknown hand on mount recto.
