ANTONIO BUSCA
(Milan 1625-1684 Milan) Study of a Prophet. Black and white chalk on grayish tan laid paper mounted on laid paper. 208x156 mm; 8x6 inches. With attributions to Busca in pen and black ink, lower left recto, and pencil, lower right recto. A student of Ercole Procaccini, Busca traveled to Rome in 1650-51 with Giovanni Ghisolfi and came under the influence of Pietro da Cortona. The current drawing is a design for a pendentive. Busca painted frescoes with prophets and angels in the cupola of the family chapel in San Vittore al Corpo at Milan in 1669. Ugo Ruggeri published 2 drawings by Busca in Disegni lombardi, Venice, 1982, nos. 148 and 149.
