Apollo 9 Launch Plotting Chart. An approximately 30x30 inch chart that measures launch vehicle Inertial Velocity in KFPS (1000 feet per second)
Apollo 9 Launch Plotting Chart. An approximately 30x30 inch chart that measures launch vehicle Inertial Velocity in KFPS (1000 feet per second) versus Inertial Flight Path Angle in degrees. Multiple heavy pencil-line curves plot the nominal or expected flight paths. A finer green line plots the actual flight path measurements. Date stamped Feb 28 1969 when this sheet was placed on the plotting machine with an additional stamp of "MISSION ONLY," referring to use only on the actual mission. Folded to approximately 8x10 inches. ACIC for NASA/MSC, Dec 1969
- Notes: An actual plotting chart used in mission control that measured telemetry from the Apollo 9 Saturn V vehicle. unique for apollo 9. Very few charts from the plotting devices used in Mission Control have survived to this day. A television projection device allowed this chart to be viewed during launch on the large screens that faced all of the controllers. The green plotting line traces the heavy pencil outline almost perfectly during initial measurements. As the launch progressed, small deviations appeared but none so much as to predict any danger to the crew or launch vehicle. There are a few major spikes in the data, some associated with the Saturn V vehicle first stage shutdown and second stage ignition. Signed by Apollo 9 Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart with "Apollo 9" added in the upper right corner.
