Vladimir Ossipoff.

Set of 6 original designs for the Outrigger Canoe Club, plus 2 later plans for renovations.

[Honolulu], 1961-1970
8 blue-line prints, various sizes; minor to minimal wear.

  • Notes: The Outrigger Canoe Clue was founded in 1908 and became a central part of Honolulu's social and athletic scene. Surfing giant Duke Kahanamoku was an early and active member through his death in 1968. The club spent its first decades in humble quarters on leased ground. When rising property values forced them to find new quarters, they commissioned the city's leading architect Vladimir Ossipoff to help design a new space which was completed in 1963. They now describe themselves as "the premiere ocean sports club in the world."

The architect Vladimir Ossipoff (1907-1998) was as "Dean of Hawai‘i's Architects," and in 1998 was the inaugural winner of the AIA Hawaii Medal of Honor presented by Hawaii Architectural Foundation.
