- Notes: first edition. The manual of logic co-authored by Arnauld and Nicole, "developed from Descartes's Regulae, elaborates the theory of 'clear and distinct' ideas and gives the first account of Pascal's Méthode. It had enormous influence as a textbook until comparatively recent times" (DSB). It became known as the Port-Royal Logic because of the authors' association with the Jansenist Convent of Port-Royal.
