Art Buchwald

Typescript Signed, with numerous holograph additions and deletions,

draft of an article for his syndicated column entitled "New Phobia: Fear of Tipping," published in various newspapers on and around January 17, 1982. Signed on first page at upper edge. Together 2½ pages, 4to; faint toning along right edge throughout, horizontal folds, ink stamp at upper left of first page marks this typescript "ORIGINAL."

Np, circa 11 January 1982.

  • Notes: "Andy Rooney started it on CBS's 'Sixty Minutes' by discussing one of Americans' greatest phobias, 'Fear of Tipping'. Rooney came out against tipping, but he admitted he didn't have the nerve to lead an anti-tipping movement. . . .
"The next time you watch '60 Minutes' on television take a close look at Andy Rooney, and you'll know why no one in the hotel, restaurant or taxi business is afraid of him. All you have to do as a waiter is pour soup on him, and he'll shove a ten spot in the palm of your hand."
