  • Notes: The subject, Sue Bailey Thurman (1903-1996), is here described as a "Promoter of Intercultural Relations." An extended biographical paragraph describes her work connecting Black culture with India and Latin America. She met with Mahatma Gandhi and was later instrumental in conveying his teachings on nonviolent resistance to Martin Luther King, Jr.
