(ART.) BOLLING, LESLIE. "Figure."

(ART.) BOLLING, LESLIE. "Figure." Poplar wood sculpture, 12-3/4 inches high; signed by Bolling and dated 1931 (rubbed) on the base; label from the Richmond Academy of Arts First Annual Exhibition, Virginia Artists, 1932 on the base. [Virginia], 1931

  • Notes: Purchased from the artist by art historian James Amos Porter in 1934. Leslie Garland Bolling (1898-1955) was known for his wood sculptural works. Bolling often painted his sculptures, but this piece and one other that we have handled were left unpainted with their warm, natural patina. Provenance: Estate of James Amos and Dorothy Porter Wesley.
