(ART.) BOLLING, LESLIE. New Moon.

(ART.) BOLLING, LESLIE. New Moon. Poplar wood sculpture, 16 inches high, signed "Leslie G. Bolling" on the back of the base. Two small professional repairs to the feet: one, 1-1/2 inches from the base of the leg she is standing on; the other 1 inch from the bottom of her lifted foot. Np, circa 1933

  • Notes: Purchased from the artist Leslie Garland Bolling (1898-1955) by art historian James Amos Porter in 1934. Bolling later wrote to Porter that "New Moon" was an early piece and that he would have preferred to provide more detail to the hands. Unlike some of the artist's later painted wood sculpture, this piece has a natural patina. Provenance: James Amos Porter Collection.
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
