(ART.) (FOLK ART.)

Emmeline Sold. Needlepoint representation of a distressed young white woman with her Black female servant laying down behind her, 19x13 inches; some slight toning to the cloth, very small area of browning or darkening in the upper right corner; in an old frame. Np, probably 19th century From the title we would presume that Emmeline is the young Black woman who has just been sold, much to the distress of the young white woman. Anti-slavery themes often appeared on 19th-century pieces of needlework.
