(ART.) HARDISON, INGE.
Group of 3 small bust sculptures of noted male African-Americans, polar explorer Matthew Henson, astronomer Benjamin Banneker, and scientist Richard Drew, each approximately 9x5x5 inches and signed by Hardison on the base. Banneker's head is reattached where broken, small repair to base on portrait of Drew, and Henson image lacking the ientification plate. Louisville, [1966] Inge Hardison (1904-1950), an African-American sculptor, was commissioned by the Taylor Distillery to portray a number of "Negro Giants of History" in the 1960s, probably in celebration of the Civil Rights Act. She was a teacher at Hunter College and is credited as being the founer of the Black Academy of Arts and Letters.
