(ART.) Quincy, Eliza Susan. Group of ten watercolors and pencil drawings.

(ART.) Quincy, Eliza Susan. Group of ten watercolors and pencil drawings. 9 loose sheets, each about 9 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches; minimal foxing. Np, circa 1827-30

  • Notes: Eliza Susan Quincy (1798-1884) was a prolific amateur artist, and member of a distinguished family; her father Josiah was mayor of Boston. A portfolio of her watercolors was published in 1975. These leaves, apparently removed from a commonplace book, include a lovely black-and-white view titled "Italian Scenery" on verso over Quincy's signature; smaller watercolors of a music book, a butterfly, a spider web, and two flowers; small pencil sketches of a boat and a tree; and two full-page outlines of stationery. Also included are four literary passages in various hands.
