(ART.) SAVAGE, AUGUSTA. Terra cotta bust of a young boy.

(ART.) SAVAGE, AUGUSTA. Terra cotta bust of a young boy. 4-1/8 inches high. Np, circa 1925-1935

  • Notes: Augusta Savage (1892-1962), a key figure of the Harlem Renaissance, was an artist, sculptor, and educator. She co-founded the Harlem Artists' Guild, and the Vanguard Studio with Aaron Douglas. One of her greatest works, "The Harp," a magnificent, sixteen-foot high sculpture was commissioned for the New York World's Fair in 1939. Sadly it was broken up after the Fair closed, and only a handful of small versions of it, made to be sold at the Fair, have survived.
