    An accomplished artist in his own right, Arthur Hoeber also worked as an art critic and writer for the The New York Times and the New York Evening Globe. Hoeber was considered an American Impressionist and specialized in rural landscapes. Growing up in New York, Hoeber attended the Art Students League and later the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon. He was made an Associate of the National Academy of Design and was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the Players Club. At the time of his death, Hoeber and his family had made their home in "The Enclosure," an artist colony in Nutley, New Jersey.
