Born in São Paulo in 1928, Piza began his artistic training in 1943 with Antonio Gomide. After participating in the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art Biennial, Piza moved to Paris and frequented the studio of Johnny Friedlaender, from whom he learned metal engraving techniques. Later he dedicated himself to watercolor and collage. He has had solo exhibits in Brazil and in several other countries such as Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Denmark and the United States.
