    Further information:
Argo Records, established in 1951, was originally founded with the goal of promoting British music performed by British artists. Over time, however, the label broadened its scope to include spoken word recordings and a variety of other cultural projects. Among its most significant achievements was the landmark collaboration with the Marlowe Dramatic Society to produce complete audio recordings of Shakespeare's works between 1958 and 1964. This ambitious undertaking resulted in an unabridged, dramatized collection encompassing all 37 plays, the sonnets, and the narrative poems.
