Large 8vo, publisher's blindstamped morocco, minor wear; scattered minor foxing; inked library stamp and ink numerical notation to the title in volume one (but the plates unmarked), bookplate on the front pastedowns (Edward Francis Searles). - Notes: nice set of the final octavo edition. This edition considered by some to be scarcer than any other octavo edition of Audubon's monumental work. Although undated, the octavo plates were destroyed when they fell through the floors of Lockwood's printing office in 1871. See Tyler's Audubon's Great National Work.
