AUGUSTE SALZMANN (1824-1872)
Jérusalem, Enceinte du Temple, Vue générale de la face Est * Face Sud de l'angle Sud-Ouest. 1854; printed 1856.
Together, 2 salted paper prints, the images measuring 9x13 inches (23x33 cm.), the mounts 17x23½ inches (43.2x59.7 cm.), and slightly smaller, each with Salzmann's printed credit, title, and publisher's (Blanquart-Évrard) credit on mount recto.

Provenance
The Collection of Dr. James and Debra Pearl

  • Condition: Auguste Salzmann's pair of salted paper prints are in very good condition (1854; printed 1856). The prints are rich and tonally diverse, with clean, bright surfaces.

The mounts both evidence scattered foxing, but this has not at all impacted the first print ("Jérusalem, Enceinte du Temple, Vue générale de la face Est"), which is quite clean and neat.

The second print, "Face Sud de l'angle Sud-Ouest," evidences one quite small and isolated stain at the far right edge, just above the horizon line. The print is otherwise overall clean and neat, but close inspection shows a couple very slight and superficial rubs. These are minor. This mount also appears slightly trimmed.

Both mounts show faint pencil transfer from prior overmats. Each with Salzmann's printed credit, title, and publisher's (Blanquart-Évrard) credit on mount recto.

Provenance: The Collection of Dr. James and Debra Pearl
