  • Notes: Corrigan (1907-95) aviator who helped build the Spirit of St. Louis, but best remembered for his infamous 1938 "wrong way" flight to Ireland when he was supposed to be flying to California. Although billed a mistake, Corrigan had indeed intended to fly to Ireland after several refusals by the U. S. government for permission to attempt a trans-Atlantic flight.
