BAL NEGRE. 1927.
63x47 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris.
Condition B+: restoration along creases and vertical and horizontal folds; stain in image.
Most of the time, single-color proofs are not very spectacular, as too much is missing from the image to give any idea of the completed poster. In this case, however, the poster is predominantly black so everything is already on the page. With just a single color, the movement and the rhythm of Colin's free-hand drawing can be sensed in a unique way. This is the only known copy to exist. Chassaing was most probably working at the printer Chachoin when they were printing the Bal Negre, and managed to pull out and kept a copy of the black proof.
