Provenance
From the Photographer; to a New York Collector, circa 1980

  • Condition: This pair of Barbara Morgan photographs titled "Martha Graham - El Penitente (Solo- Erick Hawkins)" (1940; printed early 1980s) and "Merce Cunningham - Totem Ancestor" (1942; printed early 1980s) are in very good condition. Both are contrasty, bright, and lush, with Morgan's typical dynamic approach to movement.

Both prints evidence a hard handling crease at the right center edge as well as a much softer, minor handling mark at the center left edge. These are within the background, and are primarily visible in strong, raking light, not under typical viewing conditions. Otherwise, the surfaces are bright, lustrous, and clean.

The margins and versos are also neat and clean. Each with Morgan's signature, title, and negative date in ink on recto, and her credit and copyright stamps on verso.

Provenance: From the Photographer; to a New York Collector, circa 1980
