BARSE, JR. (1861-1938) [THE TIMES OF DAY / FAIRY SOAP.] Group of 4 decorative panels. 1904.
19x8 inches, 48 1/4x20 1/4 cm. American Lithographic Co., New York.
Condition varies, generally B+: abrasions in images, chipping at corners. Mounted on card.
Using the identical framing device as Alphonse Mucha in his Times of Day (albeit with different floral and vegetal inserts), Barse provides soft and enchanting visions of nymphs at play. A line on each panel, above the bottom border but beneath the text banner reading "Copyright 1904 by the N.K. Fairbanks Company, Chicago Illinois Makers of Fairy Soap," has been carefully scratched off each image.
