Baryshnikov Dances The Nutcracker.

Lithograph, 22x28 inches oblong. Artist's proof, signed by Hirschfeld and annotated "A.P. XIV/XV" in pencil, lower margin.
"Baryshnikov is every kid's fantasy - he can fly through the air. So The Nutcracker is the perfect vehicle for him, since it seems every kid at some time or other gets to see it. I tried to capture the speed and unpredictability of his dancing. He's moving too fast to be seen in detail, just a Zorro-like slash of a figure. And the poor beheaded Nutcracker has been turned into some kind of a projectile." HOL/245
