(BAYER, HERBERT.) Deutsches Volk - Deutsche Arbeit.

(BAYER, HERBERT.) Deutsches Volk - Deutsche Arbeit. Designed by Bayer. Numerous photographic plates and reproductions. 8vo, original lithographed wrappers, edgeworn, joints tender, scattered foxing to verso of covers and front and end matter; laid in is the insert "Was bietet das heutige Berlin?" containing a detailed announcement of the exhibition. (IO). Berlin, 1934

  • Notes: The first and heavily propagandistic exhibition of the "New Germany." The "Deutsches Volk - Deutsche Arbeit" (April 21 - June 3, 1934) show was organized by the National Socialist Regime. At that point, many artists were still able to participate. However, soon after the exhibtion (after the "Röhm coup"), the prosecution intensified. Mies van der Rohe, Lilly Reich, Walter Gropius (who designed the architecture), F.A. Breuhaus, Herbert Bayer (who was responsible for graphic design), Carl Grossberg and others were among the participants. Mies and Reich designed the German mining section.
