BEAT IT, KIDHEMINGWAY, ERNEST. God Rest You Merry Gentlemen. 8vo, red cloth stamped in black, spine a bit faded as usual; custom chemise and plexiglass slipcase. New York: House of Books, 1933

  • Notes: first edition. one of 300 numbered copies. When this story appeared again later in 1933 in the short story collection "Winner Take Nothing," in the line following the boy's guilty admission of his lusty thoughts, Doctor Wilcox's reply was edited to read "Oh go and ---"; in the original version here, the good doctor's response is printed "Oh, go and jack-off." Because the small limited edition was purchased by only a few collectors interested in Hemingway's work, the questionable language slipped by the critics. A11a.
