BEATRIX POTTER. "The Cats' Meat Man." Pencil drawing across folded folio sheet, unsigned but annotated in pencil "Rough Sketch. The cats [sic] meat man" in Potter's hand, lower left. 210x286 mm; 8 1/4x11 1/4 inches, image, on cream paper, vertical crease from fold, scattered light foxing, professionally matted and framed with archival acrylic, in brown and gold wood. Not examined out of frame. Circa 1895.

  • Notes: From the estate of the artist's brother, Bertram Potter. This image was a study for a full double-sided cut-out watercolor on board given to Noel Moore in May 1895, the image later revived as "fisher-cart," a line drawing in "The Fairy Caravan" 1929.
