Provenance: acquired directly from the artist's brother Joseph Delaney, with a letter of authentication; private collection.
This is the only known example of a monotype by the artist to come to auction, and is a possible self-portrait. Monotypes by Beauford Delaney were included in the 1997 exhibition Singular Impressions: The Monotype in America at the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
