E1,200/1,800 Beginning as a six-bed infirmary 1736, the current Bellevue Hospital formally opened in 1827 Documented in the photographs is the rapidly expanding hospital, including the pavilion for the insane, which was built around the time the photographs were taken in order to accommodate the growing number of patients.
