BERTRAM POTTER. A study of rabbits and hands.

BERTRAM POTTER.
A study of rabbits and hands. Pencil with pen and brown ink on cut sheet of Gorse Hall stationery. 152x102 mm; 6x4 inches. Unsigned. Horizontal crease to lower marginal area. Nd. Tipped to window matte in two places along verso top edge. Provenance: Christie's South Kensington, 12 January, 1994, lot 148; thence to Chris Beetles, Ltd; thence to present owner.

  • Notes: A lovely set of sketches by Beatrix's younger brother Bertram. Two seated rabbits drawn in brown ink and pencil grace one side (with two indecipherable sketches along bottom) while a series of 4 studies of hands and a still life appear on the other. Gorse Hall was the home of the Potter children's grandparents and where their mother, Helen Leech, was born. The home was torn down in 1910.
