Engraved frontispiece portrait of Walton and pictorial additional title in each volume; first volume also contains double-page map of the Holy Land, double-page plan of Jerusalem, 3 double-page plates (2 of the Temple, the third showing religious artifacts), and single-page plan of the Temple, all by Wenceslaus Hollar. Ruled in red throughout. 6 volumes. Folio, 435x282 mm, contemporary gilt-panelled calf, rebacked, free endpapers conspicuously renewed, Volume 4 with dampstaining and discoloration on spine and periphery of warped front cover and light dampstaining in lower portion of contents, repaired clean tear in lower outer corner of B4, Volume 6 lacks initial blank, otherwise generally a crisp, clean set internally, with only occasional minor marginal soiling, scattered clean tears, and insignificant ink blots. Signature of Thomas Wentworth of St. John''s College, Cambridge, dated 1713 on engraved title in each volume. Armorial bookplates of William Charles De Meuron, Earl Fitzwilliam. - Notes: "The fourth and last of the great Polyglots; known as the London, or Walton''s Polyglot. Though less sumptuously printed than the Antwerp and Paris Bibles, this is the most accurate and best-equipped of the great Polyglots" (Darlow & Moule). Without the 2-volume Lexicon Heptaglotton by Edmund Castell sometimes found with Walton''s edition. Volume 1 of this set has both the "Republican" preface acknowledging Oliver Cromwell''s role in the duty-free importation of paper for this work, and the "Loyal" preface omitting mention of Cromwell.
