- Notes: Cleaver had just returned from voluntary exile, when he was promptly arrested by the California authorities. The entries deal with his legal affairs and personal matters. "I have been out of the Alameda County Jail 8 days. It has been a whirlwind, most of which has been inside my head. [21st August]; "What a day! Went to court this morning. Judge Lindsay imposed a very vigorous Gag Rule on the case." [23 August]. There is one short entry by Kathleen Cleaver, who authenticated this diary. The diary is accompanied by two photographs of Cleaver and Anthony Bryant.
