(BLACK PANTHERS.) Emory Douglas. Survival Pending Revolution.

(BLACK PANTHERS.) Emory Douglas. Survival Pending Revolution. Poster, 20 x 13 1/2 inches; minor wear. No place, circa 1971

  • Notes: The main text is taken from a speech given by Huey Newton at Boston College, 18 November 1970. The Douglas artwork depicts a girl benefitting from the Panthers' free health clinics, food, clothing, and busing programs. It also appeared as a full-page illustration in the Black Panther newspaper of 20 March 1971 (see Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas, page 138). The poster lent its title to a 2007 history of the Black Panther Party. We trace no other examples at auction, and one in OCLC (International Institute of Social History in the Netherlands).
