L. in anonymous or pseudonymous writings is an art only based on years and years of experience of his style, allusions, biography, etc . . . mention the Chas. Mathews catalogue because it contains excerpts from C. Lamb & because C. L. was a great devotee of Mathews's collection . . . I would include, if I were you, the `Spiritof the Public Journals' - it is rather a book than a periodical . . . If Cobden-S does not take your book, then by all means, publish it yourself . . . whatever happens, I will write the introductory essay . ."
