(BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER IN CENTRAL BONTOC.) Nan Liblo ai Chataku Enkapyaan . . .

(BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER IN CENTRAL BONTOC.) Nan Liblo ai Chataku Enkapyaan . . . Large 16mo, original cloth. With presentation slip initialed by the translator, the Rev. Walter Clayton Clapp. Bontok: All SS. Mission Press, 1910

  • Notes: first edition of this translation of excerpts from the Book of Common Prayer into Central Bontoc, a language spoken by the Bontok Igorot of Central Mountain Province on the island of Luzon in the Philippines (then under American military rule). According to the presentation slip, "the printing was done, mostly one page at a time, by the labours of two native boys of All SS. Mission. The paper is the 'Papel Catalan' of Spain which seldom finds its way to America. The cover and binding are as home-made as they appear to be. It is doubtless the first book ever printed within the borders of Igorotdom." Overlooked by Griffiths, who lists no translations into Philippine languages.
