[ Books ] (BLACK SUN PRESS.) Crosby, Harry. Sonnets for Caresse. 8vo,variant binding in mottled sheep with gilt bands and red lettering piece on spine, rear cover scuffed with loss and with two small insect holes near spine. Printed by Herbert Clarke for Crosby. Paris,1926 E2,000/3,000 ONE OF ONLY TWENTY-SEVEN COPIES OF CROSBY'S FIRST BOOK. This being the Second Edition after the First Edition printed in a small run of only seventeen copies. INSCRIBED BY CROSBY AND WITHAN AUTOGRAPH NOTE ON HIS CALLING CARD which, although not entirely decipherable, resembles (and not unlikely to be) [John] "Rodker". Theinscription reads: "For the author of Ah, if it were not for the walls that lie between." The card reads that it is one of "just a few copies to send to friends for criticism. I hope you will tell me frankly what you think" and goes on to say that "Ah if it... is as good a piece of poetical verse as was ever written. Well give'em hell and give me some good advice. Affectionately Harry." Minkoff A-3b.
