The recipient met Clancy at an industry convention that month through mutual friend author Larry Bond. They, among other col -leagues, joined an event in which the chase scene of Red October was used in a wargame scenario for Bond's new naval game "Harpoon" wherein the recipient played Captain Ramius and commanded the famous missile sub. After the game, Clancy presented him with this proof copy which he inscribed to "Marko Ramius."
