The Grand Central Palace was New York City's primary exhibition space from the time of its construction in 1911 until the Coliseum opened in 1956. It was home to automobile shows, boat shows, trade shows, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and many other events. In 1924, it was home to the largest exhibition of Russian artwork ever exhibited until that time outside of Russia. The show followed on the heels of a smaller, highly influential exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum the previous year, Exhibition of Russian Painting and Sculpture. This 1924 exhibition was substantially larger. The catalogue for the exhibition lists 914 works, which included oil paintings, sulpture, watercolors and wood carvings. Among these, were 21 works by Kustodiev, including one bronze.
