Ablum entitled "Recollections of the Art Exhibition, Metropolitan Fair, New York," containing 20 photographs, comprising 1 handsome group portrait of selected artists, and 19 photographs of groups of paintings and sculpture as they were displayed in the space several pages of text, including a lengthy list of the artists and the titles of works exhibited, precede the photographs. Albumen prints, each approximately 6 x 9 inches, on the original two-toned mounts with the photographer's credit, title of the exhibition, place, date, and copyright on mount recto. Oblong 4to, gilt-lettered, decoratively embossed, some scuffing and wear; dampstaining on preliminaries, with original paper guards; all edges gilt. PHOTOGRAPHS CLEAN. 1864 (SANITARY COMMISSION'S ART FAIR BY BRADY) AN IMPORTANT CIVIL WAR-ERA ITEM "that chronicles the art exhibition mounted "in aid of the U.S. Sanitary Commission." The album features two views of "Washington Crossing the Delaware," Bierstadt's "The Rocky Mountains," paintings by Plassan, Preyer, and many other paintings and sculptures by well-known artists."
