Three titles, two inscribed.

1) Kenward Elmslie's (1929-2022) The Champ. Los Angeles: Black Sparrow Press, 1968, illustrated by Joe Brainard (1929-2022). Brainard's personal copy of the first edition, quarto, an out-of-series copy with "Artist's copy" in place of a number; inscribed to fellow author Patsy Southgate in black marker on the colophon: "My very special copy for your very special you," with numerous full-page illustrations by Brainard; bound in original publisher's decorated cloth with brown paper label printed with white, orange endleaves; a few spots; 10 3/8 x 7 3/4 in.

2) The Friendly Way. New York: Siamese Banana Press, 1972. First edition, quarto; original side stapled illustrated wrappers; lightly soiled, some edgewear; 11 x 8 1/2 in.

3) I Remember More. New York: Angel Hair Books, 1972. First edition, inscribed by Brainard to Southgate, "For Patsy with Love" in black marker on title, quarto; original saddle-stitched pictorial wrappers with title printed in red; lightly soiled, some edgewear; 10 x 7 7/8 in. (3)

Patsy Southgate (1928-1998) was an influential critic, writer and figure of the New York and Parisian literary scenes throughout the 1950s and '60s. Southgate helped found the writer's colony in eastern Long Island where she was involved in close friendships with figures such as Frank O'Hara and his companion Joe LeSeur, later moving in with the latter after O'Hara's death in 1966.
