(BRAZIL.) Wrought-iron fetish of Ixu, made from fabricated iron tubes, 261/2 inches tall. [Bahia, 1930s-40s
- Notes: Made by descendants of Brazilian slaves, in keeping with their ancestral Yoruban beliefs. Ixu is the equivalent of Hermes in Greek myth. One would receive messages from the Gods by way of Ixu. He appears here holding a spear and trident, and with an elongated penis, to symbolize his virility.
