Boston: Printed at the Anti-Slavery Office, 1847 E800/1,200 FIRST EDITION of the author's first book. He was the first African-American to write a novel, "Clotel, or The President's Daughter," published while in exile in London, 1853; and a play, "The Escape," published in Boston 1858.
