BRUNO PAUL (1874-1968) ERSTE INTERNATIONALE MITGLEIDER AUSSTELLUNG. 1907.

26 3/4x18 1/2 inches. Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin.
Condition B +: restored losses in top margin; tear through right margin affecting image; restoration in image.
An architect, painter and illustrator, Bruno Paul was a founder of the Vereinigten Werkstätten für Kunst in Handwerk and a major contributor to the avant-garde magazine Simplicissimus. A member of the Werkbund, after the war Paul occupied many top directing positions in the Berlin Academy. Like many other exhibition posters of the time, this poster is strictly typographic and perfectly organized. The sans serif lettering gives it a modernistic touch even though the poster is somehow rigidly academic.
