- Notes: first edition. Rich in information as well as rare photographs. On the front pastedown is the ownership signature of Anna Chalmers Alexander with her address in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A brief biography of Ms. Alexander appears on page 112, "Mrs. Anna Alexander is a white school teacher of this city. But the author is forced to speak of her because of the noble work she has done for the colored people in Ypsilanti and because of the high esteen they have for her and the honor they wish to confer on her through the medium of this book."
