- Notes: nathaniel bowditch's copy, Signed by him on the half-title. According to Lawrence C. Wroth, the work is a plagiarism of William Hutchinson's A Treatise on Practical Seamanship with minor additions (see Wroth, Some American Contributions to the Art of Navigation, Providence, 1947). Nevertheless, it is the first American work on seamanship and scarce, with no copies coming to auction in the last 20 years. This copy with a nice association with American astronomer and mathematician Nathaniel Bowditch, the publisher and editor of The American Practical Navigator.
