First edition, three octavo volumes, with half-title in third volume as called for by Penzer, illustrated with fourteen lithographic plates, all but one colored or tinted, and four maps or plans, of which three are folding; light marginal foxing, occasional small spots, pencil annotations; original three-quarter green morocco and marbled boards, double ruled in gilt, spine gilt lettered, marbled endpapers, marbled edges; very lightly rubbed at joints; ex libris I. Griffith Deandern, with bookplate; 8 1/8 x 5 in.

First edition, in two octavo volumes, each illustrated with frontispieces and twelve photogravure plates, two of which are in color, one facsimile letter, five maps, and numerous text illustrations; small open tears to upper edge throughout, sporadic thumbing, large closed tear affecting text on page 201 of first volume; bound in black gilt-stamped publisher's cloth, with black coated endpapers, untrimmed; hinges cracked, losses at spine ends, some fraying, block cracked in multiple places; ex libris Annie Newman, inscribed to her from J.M. Loftus-Otway in 1893; 9 7/8 x 5 ½ in.
