  • Notes: A press photograph of Lewis Michaux's African National Memorial Bookstore, a Harlem institution from 1932 to 1974. Michaux had been an active supporter of Marcus Garvey, whose portrait is prominently displayed here, as well as a sign advertising "Repatriation Headquarters, Back to Africa Movement." The photo was taken to accompany stories about the rioting in Harlem which had ended the day before.
